Penn State ASA volunteered in a program called STEM Extension for Summer Academy here on PSU campus. The event engaged blind and visually-impaired high school students in STEM research from which they have previously felt excluded. Students were able to interact with a vibrating string and cello while discussing string instrument design and mode shapes. They also got to try out confusaphones to show how much we rely on our hearing to localize our surroundings. The chapter had a great time and hope to volunteer at this event again in the future!
