On Saturday, September 30th, members of ASA participated in the Penn State Eberly College of Science’s annual Haunted-U event! For the event, we helped kids make oobleck using cornstarch, water, and food coloring, making sure it had just the right amount of concentration such that it behaved like both a solid and a liquid. The oobleck was then laid on top of a vibrating speaker, causing it to morph into cool shapes, and a strobe light was flashed onto the setup so that the shapes could be seen better. At the end of the activity, we put the oobleck into plastic bags so that the kids could take it home and play with it some more. Overall, everyone had a blast at our Haunted-U activity, and we look forward to returning next year for another cool demonstration!
