Earlier this summer, a local non-profit in State College called Discovery Space reached out to our chapter in need of assistance with an acoustics-related project. Discovery Space is a science center that runs camps, after-school programs, and more for children of all ages in Centre County. The team at Discovery Space found that some of their classrooms and space were quite loud and noisy, making communication and general operations difficult. To help with this issue, a team of ASA members conducted reverberation time measurements with balloons and sound level meters to better understand the spaces causing problems. The team is now advising Discovery Space with potential solutions and treatment options with the goal of staying within their budget.
